Engro Fertilizer V. Rohail Muhammad (Unfair Labour Practice Appeal)
PLJ 2013 · Sindh High Court
This case involved a dispute between the Engro Fertilizers Employees Union and the company's management, heard before the National Industrial Relations Commission in Karachi. The union, acting as the certified bargaining agent, had submitted a charter of demands to management seeking better terms for workers. Management formed a negotiating team and talks began, but no settlement was reached after several months. The union claimed that during a company meeting, the Chief Executive pressured workers to withdraw their demands and threatened retrenchment (layoffs), which the union argued amounted to illegal "unfair labour practice."
